Use actual Cash envelopes as a tool within that larger budget to actively control and monitor your day to day and weekly spending in the three or four categories, such as Food, Gas/Tolls, and Fun, in which you are most likely to fall down and blow your budget. With the Cash Envelope technique in those few categories, plus some will power and character, you will be able to make your budget *stick like super glue* .
