Spend Log

This page exists for the sole purpose of actually recording what our money is spent on.  Sure we could just look at the budget and say "but you have an all-inclusive groceries category that all this could come from." (or personal expenses, spending money, whatever category has cash)

Stuff in this log is typically not listed in the budget.  However, we don’t want to forget about them and forget to plan for these items in the future.  Of course, we could just write them off as one-time expenses…but another objective here is to make us realize how much we spend on things that we don’t pay attention to.  For instance, how much money are we spending on going out to eat instead of eating at home on any given month?  Yeah, I don’t know either.  I’d guess like $30-40 a month.  But I’ll bet we’ve blown closer to $100 a month instead since we weren’t keeping track.  NO MORE!!

Anything that’s not listed in the budget as a needed expense or bill will get listed here.  I don’t care how big it is.  It needs to then funded from something on the budget.  This is typically where things get absorbed into credit cards instead of making their way into the budget.  WE NEED TO FACE OUR REALITY AND STOP HIDING PURCHASES ON CREDIT CARDS!

Ok, enough of the explanation and rant, here’s the current list:

1. Medicine/extra "family is sick" groceries ~$50
2. Cleaning supplies for church nursery $10
3. Newspaper $12
4. Soccer registrations for spring (3 kids, and grandma paid for it) $70
